America Cordero Workman Grant (biography): Daughter of George Workman and Maria Ancarnacion Cordero and wife to Ulysses S. Grant, Jr.
Batholome Miguel Ortega (biography): Scribe to subdelegate Eusebio Buenaventura Belena (who would later become ruler of New Spain) and grantee of Rancho Las Virgenes.

* A note about the news press clippings. Unfortunately, it appears from my cursory readings thus far that most portrayals of Hispanics in the Santa Barbara news papers was negative--arrests, fights, etc--with a few exceptions--the more prominent Hispanic families seem to have received more positive portrayals.
